Canteen, Tamsa Industrial Plant, Veracruz, Mexico
Program: canteen for 250 people under a structure with a hay roof
Size: 1,200 sqm
Status: completed in 2005
Largely influenced by Cuba and the Caribbean, the “palapa” (a hut built in coco wood and palm leaves roof) is a common method of construction in this region.
The project is a new canteen to be built for a major steel tubes mill, and we thought it would be interesting to introduce the palapa typology in the context of a steel plant to see how it would work with the surrounding mills and office buildings.
