Galerie Campana et Charles X, Musée du Louvre, Paris, France
Program: redesign of the historical Louvre Galleries to house Greek and Roman vases and small Greek sculpture collections
Client: Etablissement Public du Grand Louvre
Status: competition on invitation; completed in 1993
Artwork as an “individual” is at the conceptual core of the project, translated spatially as “isolation” – isolation between other art works and isolation of the art works from the historical furniture and decoration of the mueum.
The purpose is to offer to a public of non-specialized visitors the opportunity to better appreciate the art work, while providing structured and integrated information that does not disturb the exhibits.
For the new project we chose an abstract language to avoid any stylistic imitation of the historical setting.
