Einaudi Bookstore, Milan, Italy
Program: restoration and refurbishment of a 1960’s “landmark” bookshop
Size: 200 sqm
Status: completed in 1996
This bookshop was originally designed in the early 1960’s by E. Rogers (from BBPR) and became a literary and political gathering place for many decades.
Of course, in this renovation project the building’s aspect as an important cultural landmark is maintained. Consequently, the project restores the original design by removing superfluous additions, adds a new mezzanine to the selling area to make the staircase visible from the ground floor, and installs an air conditioning system, a new lighting system and new pieces of furniture, including leather sofas and red displays tables.
