Exhibition “Leon Gimpel (1873-1948)”, Paris, France
Program: Exhibition of work by Leon Gimpel
Client: Musée d’Orsay
Size: 180 sqm
Status: completed 2008
The notion that Gimpel’s “sense de l’image” is incredibly contemporary is central to the design of the exhibition, which aims to reveal Gimpel as a contemporary artist. Because Gimpel’s autochromes are best shown by using a projector, the nature of the works to be shown served to further define the design of the exhibition.
The curatorial decision to display these small and delicate glasses required reduced back lighting, while the design decision to display them in a continuous plexi-glass showcase underlines the aesthetical “unit of intentions”.
